This project includes the addition of a hot strip rolling mill at an existing facility in Europe. As part of the expansion
project, Hatch will carry out both an environmental impact assessment (EIA) and a social impact assessment (SIA) for the
site.
Acting as the Owner’s Engineer, Hatch is managing all activities associated with both the environmental and social impact
assessments.
Services provided by the Social Impact Management group include:
- Performing a scoping study for each assessment
- Bid analysis and selection of preferred local consultant
- Management and review of the environmental and social assessments
- Assisting and participating in public consultation and disclosure meetings
- Ensuring that the public is aware of project impacts and involved in providing meaningful feedback.
- The site is located near an environmentally sensitive water body, and is near a town that relies heavily on tourism.
- The availability of skilled labor in the surrounding area is low, and an accurate labor analysis is required in order to
maximize local employment benefits.
- All official documentation and discussions with regulators must be culturally and language appropriate.
- Although regulations do not require a social impact assessment, it will be performed in order to ensure proper public
consultation and disclosure, and to establish a proper socioeconomic baseline and development plan for the area.
