Hatch replaces transformer oil storage for Nalcor
January 23, 2012
Hatch has been retained by Nalcor Energy to prepare a design and tender package to replace the transformer oil storage facility at the Churchill Falls generating station in Labrador, Canada.
The existing facility, which was constructed in the 1960’s, needs to be replaced because of environmental issues, primarily leaking pipe connections and questionable containment integrity. The new facility will be constructed adjacent to the current one, so that current operations can be maintained throughout the replacement project.
The new facility will consist of two independent systems for two separate transformer oils. Each system will have three double-walled storage tanks and a pumping/metering skid, to be housed in a common pump house and use a common top-loading platform.
The project is currently under way, and is scheduled for completion in December 2011.The St. John’s office is working on the project, with support from the Amherst and Sydney offices.
